Support for you
Find a therapist or coach
Our directory lists qualified therapists and coaches who offer discounted sessions to people in the arts. Start here, and we'll help you find the right kind of support.
What's the difference between a therapist and a coach?
How do I choose the right person?
- Think about what you'd like help with, and any preferences you have about who you'd feel comfortable talking to.
- For therapy, look at the approach (or "modality"), such as CBT, psychodynamic, humanistic or integrative.
- Check their credentials: BACP or UKCP membership for therapists, and ICF accreditation for coaches.
- It's okay to get in touch with a few people before deciding who feels right.
How does the AFT discount work?
The prices on our directory already include the discount. Practitioners offer it at their discretion, so just mention Applause for Thought when you get in touch.
What if I can't afford support?
Many therapists may offer reduced-cost sessions if you ask. These organisations also offer means-tested support:
- Actors' Benevolent Fund
- BAPAM
- The Theatrical Guild
- Royal Theatrical Fund
What if I can't find someone I like?
- Therapists: search the BACP or UKCP directories.
- Coaches: search the AC or ICF directories.
- Free NHS support: speak to your GP about a referral.
- Other directories: Counselling Directory, Psychology Today UK and Life Coach Directory.
Or email us at info@applauseforthought.co.uk and we'll help.
All practitioners on our directory are qualified, but they work independently, so we can't guarantee their availability. We'd always recommend doing your own checks when choosing someone to support you.
