Teaching wellbeing in performing arts is vital for students' mental health. The field's stress demands coping skills and resilience. Integrating wellbeing boosts self-awareness, creativity, and teamwork. Prioritising it helps educators create supportive spaces encouraging risk-taking and self-expression, enhancing artistic growth and career readiness. We focus on physical skills but often neglect the mental skills needed for a lasting career.
The Wellbeing Curriculum and Graduation Toolkit
Teaching mental health skills in performing arts training is essential to prepare students for industry challenges.
The Wellbeing Curriculum, developed by AFT and Crystal Nicholls, provides tools and strategies through 18 workshops to help students manage stress, build resilience, and maintain balance during training and future careers.
The Graduation Toolkit, created by AFT and Laura White, offers resources in a four-hour workshop to support graduates’ wellbeing as they enter the workforce. This approach boosts individual performance and fosters a healthier arts community. For more information, please get in touch.
